Excellent eateries ( A good food guide..)

Just started to blog a couple of entries of food/pub/restaurant which we have found to be really lovely.

#1   Ambrette in Ryehttp://www.theambrette.co.uk/home/rye_default.aspx.  I had just recently got back from India and was feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the traffic etc.  My darling beloved had booked us in to stay at The George in Rye.  This has recently been done up and is a lovely pub/hotel.

However the ever clever Mrs W had seen the Indian restaurant, The Ambrette, and booked us in for an evening meal.  The Ambrette is about 3 doors up across the street from the George, and the outside is covered in ivy.

Inside was lovely and the food is just so much class.  To just call it an Indian restaurant is to do it a disservice.  This was high class cooking.  You got lovely little touches between the courses and the spicing was to die for.  Have a look at the sample menus.

Pudding was just divine – we both had a trio of pudding and they were just fabulous.

Service was excellent, and quite discreet.  You could want for nothing here.  Truly a great discovery.  The fact that Great Dixter (for plant lovers) is just about 10 miles up the road was an added bonus and a must do wander for any one who wants to see a great garden and house.

#2 The British Larder – Bromeswell Suffolk –   http://www.britishlardersuffolk.co.uk/

We were recommended this pub by some friends and went in and booked a meal the other day.  Fabulous.

Its so nice to find a pub where the food is the key selling point, it just happens to do Adnams Broadside as well, my favourite beer.

The place is lovely – it’s quiet and there is no music to get in the way of a good chat and some lovely food.  The cooking was way above the normal pub food and covered a wide selection.

Staff were cheerful and polite and it was a pleasure to be served by the attentive team.

A truly brilliant find, we’ll be doing this one again for sure.  If you can get someone else to do the driving so much the better,  a great night out.

#3 The Last Anchor  – Ipswich  docks – http://www.thelastanchor.co.uk/.

Had a couple of meals here – mostly in large parties, where the service has been good and the food pretty good and well above average given the size of the parties size they were serving.

Overlooks the Ipswich docks and looks nice at night.  Food always been pretty good.

#4 The Salthouse – Ipswich docks – http://www.salthouseharbour.co.uk/

More of a hotel and the rooms are really good I am told, however the restaurant is really great.  It’s not cheap but really good, well presented food that is really delicious.  Well worth a go, mixed varied meal selection and well cooked, flavoursome and very relaxing atmosphere.
